There is no greater pain than guilt. Guilt stems from knowing one has wronged, has erred and any justification that was used before the cause has no merit after the cause. Guilt arouses an emotional response and yet appeals to rationality. For this reason guilt is the greatest enemy of rationality, as it can dismantle the rational faculty with a single blow.

This one unworthy act, and it will always be found, will justify our prejudice and allow us to take delight in the other’s unworthiness. This very act makes us the most unworthy of beings.
